Proyecto Bernabé aims to reach out to the poor and disadvantaged – with a special focus on immigrants - in NW Madrid, via a drop-in centre in Las Rozas. We start with food and clothes, useful information, practical advice, and most importantly a sympathetic ear, but we are always ready to explore other ways of meeting the needs of those who come. We are seeking to show the love of Jesus in practical ways, and are committed to following where God leads. This ministry is shared with our partner church ‘Príncipe de Paz’.
Our team of volunteers includes people from Mountainview and Príncipe de Paz churches, and non-believers with a social conscience! We are currently helping about 20-30 families every week, and spending about 800 euros a month on food, although we are working to supplement that with regular contributions from the Madrid Food Bank.
A few statistics: In total, our 'customers' number 87 families and 250 people, of which 185 are adults and 65 are children and babies. All are immigrants. Many are from central and south America, but recently we have been seeing increasing numbers of Moroccans and Rumanians.
